Feeding the Hungry - Jeevan Akshaya

Feeding the Hungry is the flagship humanitarian programme of Mother Teresa Charitable Trust (MTCT), dedicated to ensuring that no one is deprived of the fundamental right to nutritious food. The programme provides freshly prepared, wholesome meals to individuals and families experiencing hunger, poverty, homelessness, illness, abandonment, and social exclusion.

Millions of people, including children, elderly persons, daily wage workers, migrant labourers, homeless individuals, persons with disabilities, widows, orphaned children, and economically disadvantaged families, continue to face food insecurity every day. Through Jeevan Akshaya, we strive to alleviate hunger by providing regular, nutritious meals with compassion and care to those in need. By ensuring access to wholesome food, the initiative helps reduce hunger and malnutrition while improving overall health, strengthening immunity, and enhancing the physical and mental well-being of vulnerable individuals and communities. Through this effort, we aim to restore dignity, promote social equity, and improve the quality of life for those facing economic hardship.

Future Programmes

MTCT proposes to:

Expand the number of community feeding centres to reach underserved and remote areas.

Identifying and supporting a greater number of vulnerable individuals and economically disadvantaged families facing food insecurity.

Strengthening partnerships with philanthropists, corporate organizations, donors, and community stakeholders to ensure the programme's sustainability.

Encouraging every unit of the Mother Teresa Forum to conduct regular community feeding initiatives as part of their ongoing service activities.

Building and empowering a larger network of dedicated volunteers to support food distribution and community outreach.

Mobilizing resources and fostering collaborative efforts to ensure that no deserving individual is deprived of nutritious meals.

Through these initiatives, MTCT aims to build a sustainable, compassionate, and community-driven movement that advances food security, upholds human dignity, and carries forward the enduring legacy of Mother Teresa.

Looking Ahead

Our vision is a hunger-free and compassionate society. To achieve this, we plan to:

Food on Wheels, a mobile hunger-relief initiative that delivers freshly prepared, nutritious meals directly to poor and vulnerable people living on pavements, roadsides, under bridges, and in other public spaces.

Establishing community kitchens to provide regular, wholesome meals to vulnerable and food-insecure populations.

Implementing focused nutrition initiatives for children, women, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and other at-risk groups.

Building strategic partnerships with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, foundations, educational institutions, philanthropic organizations, and individual donors to scale and sustain our feeding programmes.

Leveraging community participation and volunteer engagement to create a sustainable network of hunger relief initiatives.
